About DBT
Marsha Linehan developed Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) over the last two decades of the twentieth century to treat chronically parasuicidal adult outpatients diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), cases that did not respond well to classic psychoanalytic or psychodynamic, behavioral or cognitive-behavioral approaches. Her method is now used in the treatment of other complicated, complex disorders or multi-problem cases, especially those involving severe emotional dysregulation, including addictions, eating disorders, and more. DBT draws on a number of elements, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, dialectical philosophy, the biosocial theory, and many more.
